About
B-Cake Bakes is all about maximizing creative freedom in the kitchen to rediscover the joy food offers, even within dietary constraints.
My Story
A little about me: My home is Minnesota and am currently working to complete a certification in Nutrition Therapy. I studied theatre in college and currently work as an actor. I love the sport of running, the longer the distance the better. The most important part of my life is my faith. And my favorite part of cooking is indulging in the creativity of experimentation.
I’m happy to share the results of that kitchen “play time;” I hope you find a recipe on my site that encourages you to take pleasure in cooking and inspires you with food’s endless possibilities!
About B-Cake Bakes
B-Cake Bakes is the result of many years of learning. In 2019, I underwent a total joint replacement of my right temporomandibular joint due to a disc displacement that resulted in bone loss. One of the most difficult and painful aspects of living with my new prosthetic jaw joint was the way it affected my eating. My diet dwindled dramatically down to a few select soft foods that didn’t cause excessive pain when eating them.
But as my recipe repertoire shrunk, so did the enjoyment I derived from food.
The types of food I consumed evolved. At first, I had no idea what to eat, and so I reached for ice cream, yogurt, mashed potatoes…mostly foods high in sugar and with little substance. I felt sick all the time. Next, I tried rice, hummus, sweet potatoes, all healthy and great, but that’s practically all I ate…every day…no variance. Eating became a mere routine.
I was exhausted all the time because of a lack of nourishment, especially because I was highly active.
My dad, a doctor, suggested I try to change it up a little, maybe try to diversify the staples of my diet, perhaps try a different sort of grain. That recommendation began a culinary journey. I discovered the excitement of experimentation.
I realized how rewarding the process of trying, and failing, and trying again can be.
B-Cake Bakes is the accumulation of the knowledge and recipes in which all those trials resulted. I hope it will do for you what it did for me. Even though your dietary restrictions may remain, I hope it will give you a feeling of freedom in the kitchen and enjoyment in food, one meal at a time.
